TOOLS: The Medius Design Center
Medius is developing a proprietary set of development support and test tools,
collectively referred to as “The Design Center”. Currently, the tools in the
Design Center include:
Visualization Tool (VisTool): VisTool is PC-based application used to develop
and test initial prototypes of sensor data interfaces. Data streams from range
sensors can be overlaid on video footage from a camera showing the sensor field
of view. This provides a quick visual correlation between reported range data
and what is perceived with the human eye. Data interface code developed for
VisTool provides a template for sensor interfaces used in other tools. VisTool
can also capture data from sensor characterization tests for post-test
analysis.
Application Prototyping and Analysis Tool (APAT). APAT is an engineering
workstation for analysis and test of sensor performance and of applications
based on the Medius SACore platform. APAT performs visualization, modeling,
analysis, and logging of raw and processed sensor data. Traffic scenarios can
be modeled using a trajectory generator. Each simulation pass combines the
truth trajectory with measured or hypothetical sensor characteristics to model
performance of a sensor system. Monte Carlo analysis can be applied against a
given scenario to develop quality metrics on system performance. APAT can operate on live data sources or playback of data
captured in prior live sessions. Changes in operating parameters can be
downloaded to sensors and the Medius platform to evaluate their impact.
Real-time displays include raw data streams, reference video, and configurable
graphical representations of the situation map for the host vehicle. APAT
is designed to compare truth data obtained either from simulation data or live
targets against system performance in real-time, and to facilitate measurement
of actual performance against performance improvement expectations.
Vehicle Image Processing Suite (VIPS). This Medius image analysis engine has
been developed to provide a reference vision sensor for the Design Center. VIPS
logic detects vehicles from an image stream provided by an inexpensive camera.
VIPS accepts either live input or playback of recorded video, and produces
track data (bearing, width, range, and range rate) for each target vehicle
detected.
Medius will negotiate licensing agreements for early releases of the Design
Center with a small number of select OEMs and automotive subsystem integrators.
The patented Medius SACore embedded platform will be made available with the
Design Center tool suite so that OEM's and integrators can evaluate the
platform and provide engineering feedback to the Medius product development
team. Early strategic partners will have the opportunity to contribute to
enhanced functionality of the Design Center, as well as reduce time to market
for their related product development programs.
Medius intends to eventually place its proprietary situational awareness engine
and the Design Center in the hands of all large brand OEMs and many
integrators.
SACore: Situation Awareness Controller
Reference - (SACore)
Medius is developing advanced tools to provide real-time
hardware-in-the-loop (HIL)
modeling, rapid prototyping, for embedded
controller software development. Our experience in developing HIL real-time
solutions dates back to our development of embedded software systems
for commercial and defense avionics systems. Initially, our team focused
on developing a software framework that was optimized for the demanding
requirements of delivering real-time environmental and situational awareness
data. This framework provided the foundation for our follow-on efforts to
design a secure, fault tolerant and predictable system that would receive,
correlate and enhance data from any sensor source, and could deliver real-time
360° situational awareness around a vehicle. Our product development effort is
currently marketed to the automotive industry as Medius’ Situation Awareness
Core reference design, or SACore.
SACore leverages commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) components, including
processors, industry standard interface devices, and popular software
applications. SACore is uniquely qualified to meet the needs of the most
demanding integrated vehicle control applications.
SACore is designed to provide the software backbone for the most advanced
integrated vehicle systems.
SACore can be used to prototype, demonstrate viability and realize integrated
vehicle control systems for use in:
• Automotive
• Fleet applications
• Commercial truck applications
• Aerospace applications
• Defense applications
• Transportation applications
The SACore Modeling Center is our approach to performing effective system level
prototyping and integration. The SACore Modeling Center is a “virtual design
lab” that can be implemented in parallel with Medius’ SACore Reference
Platform. This approach allows for concurrent development
activities thus reducing the overall cost and schedule for system
integration.
The SACore Modeling Center is the only simulation tool designed specifically to
provide an in depth analysis of three key design metrics: component cost,
system performance and feature enablement.
